Simple & Delicious Greek Spaghetti

This recipe was shared by my friend Heidi after she made it for our book club over 10 years ago. It quickly became a family favorite and a meal we love making for friends. I hope you’ll enjoy it, too. Thank you Heidi for such a delicious and memorable meal so many years ago!

This adaptation of traditional Italian spaghetti is so delicious! I love how the addition of different spices can completely transform your typical spaghetti.

Ingredients

Scale

1 large onion, diced

1 pound ground beef (I use 90/10)

Allspice

Cinnamon

Garlic powder

Greek seasoning (such as Cavender’s)

Salt

Pepper

28 oz. tomato sauce

1 12 oz. package of egg noodles

8 tablespoons of butter

1 pound block of mozzarella cheese, shredded

1 8 oz. package of Italian cheese blend

Instructions

In a large saucé pan saute the onion until softened.

Add ground beef and brown it until cooked through.

Add your spices. Like any true family recipe there are no measurements but I find that I can be very heavy handed with the allspice and cinnamon.

Add tomato sauce and simmer about 45 minutes.

Cook noodles according to package instructions.

In a small pan brown the butter over medium heat until it begins to brown. Be careful not to burn it. You’ll want to take it off heat once you smell that familiar brown butter aroma!

In an oven safe casserole dish add your cooked egg noodles, cover with browned butter and stir to coat the noodles, add cheese and top with the meat sauce.

Cover with tin foil and warm in a 350° degree oven until cheese has melted. Serve hot.
